Buying Child’s Bed and Mattress- Twin or Full?

Buying that first bed for your child is an exciting day and there are so many things to consider when making that decision. Room size,
design, spacial elements, and comfort are are few to say the least. Twins are the “traditional” size bed for a child but it is really the right choice for you?

Bed Sizes and Dimensions

The most important difference between twin beds and full beds is width. Twin beds and full beds measure 75 inches long. Full size beds are 54 inches wide. Twin beds are 39 inches wide. Think about if you want more space to walk about and play in the room, or more space to lie in the bed. Crucial decisions.

One Child? One Adult?

Twin beds are fine for one person, but cuddlling up in a twin can be tight for a large adult and child. If the room size is small and you only need to accommodate one child or one adult in the bed, a twin bed should be fine. You can push it up against a wall to increase the comfort level. However, if there is room to fit a full bed in the room, one adult will be more comfortable and two children can sleep together comfortably. Book time will be cozier.

Twin Beds- Money Saver

Twin beds are much more compact and the seem to fit well in any space. You can rearrange the room if necessary because of the small size of a twin bed. You will spend less money up front on the cost of the mattress, the bed frame and bedding. Child’s bedding mostly comes in twin sizes.

Full Bed- Worth The Extra?

Most adults will agree that if you have the space, a full size bed is much more comfortable. One adult can fit much more comfortably in a full. If you are in a pinch, two adults can easily sleep in a full together. It might be tight, but that’s nothing compared to two adults in a twin. Ask yourself if the 15 extra inches is worth using that much space in the room. The other nice thing about a full is that you can use this bed when guests come over and you will have a comfortable place for grandma to grandpa to sleep during their visit. Sleep overs will also be easier- but consider that floor space is sacrificed for sleep space.

Full or Twin Bunk Beds

A great space saver for families with children is the bunk bed. There are so man different options available. Twin bunk beds are a great space-saving alternative. they even make trundles that pull out under bunk beds to add a triple bed. Another comfortable option is a bunk bed made with one full mattress on the bottom and one twin bed on the top. This is can be an ideal solution for accommodating two or three people comfortably.

Daybeds, Trundles, More

Twin trundle beds and full trundle beds have an additional mattress that pulls out from under the bed. This second mattress easily slides out from underneath a twin bed or full bed. They look great and can be a stylish alternative for a smaller space. Daybeds also have a great look and while they are pushed up against the wall, they allow for more walking space in the room. Day beds can also function as trundle beds. Futons and sofa beds are now made more comfortable and also an option.
