Jennie-O Recalls 55,000 Pounds of Frozen Ground Turkey
Before you bbq turkey burgers for dinner, check out your freezer. Jennie-O Turkey Store is recalling nearly 55,000 pounds of its frozen ground turkey due to potential Salmonella contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
Sold at Sam's Club, the recalled meat is labeled "All Natural Turkey Burgers with seasonings Lean White Meat" with a "use by" date of December 23, 2011, lot codes between "32710" and "32780." and comes in 4-pound boxes containing 12 patties.
Please do not eat these burgers and instead return them to Sam's Club for a full refund.
Twelve people in Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Illlinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin reported eating these burgers before they became ill with salmonella stated the FSIS.
Salmonella infections can be life-threatening, especially for those with weak immune systems (including infants, the elderly, and others with compromised immune systems due to illness or chemotherapy). The FSIS states that symptoms include diarrhea, stomach cramps and fever.
