Best Back-To-School Fashion – Twitter Party Recap

This is article is a sponsored post for T.J. Maxx and Marshalls

We had a blast chatting about the best back-to-school fashions  at our Twitter Party last night! Special thanks to everyone who stopped by.  Congratulations to @Joeyfrom SC , @Fashionalities , @Martiferg , @sunrae17 , @nilimonicky , @ChaCha572 who were the lucky winners of $50 giftcards from T.J. Maxx and Marshalls.

So what was the biggest controversy of the evening? Skinny jeans. Parents were pretty sharply divided on the topic – some love the modern look, and others HATE HATE HATE it. But our favorite comment on the subject was from a mom wrote that she was glad the major brands started making skinny jeans for boys, because before that her son had to wear his sister’s jeans!

Here’s a quick round-up of the great feedback from our community of parents. Think of it as one-stop shopping!

What new styles or trends are your kids talking about this fall?

Glitter, animal prints, stripes and feathers were the most tweeted trends, along with graphic tees and skinny jeans.

What is your child’s go-to outfit or wardrobe staple?

No surprises here! You said cargo shorts, T-shirts and jeans, sportswear, polo shirts, sneakers and hoodies. One mom answered “dress and leggings.” We can totally relate, that’s a ModernMom staff staple outfit too!

Who are your kid’s celebrity fashion inspirations?

Sibling style icons: Willow & Jaden Smith, Violet & Seraphina Rose Affleck, Kingston & Zuma Rossdale. Other popular answers: Suri Cruise,  Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.

What’s the craziest or out-there trend that you child has begged you for?

These made us giggle, remembering our own crazy fashion phases (Z. Cavaricci, anyone?) . You said: flip-flops in the winter, Silly Bandz, hair feathers and Heelys (the shoes with the wheels inside).

Which school supplies are at the top of your shopping list?

Apparently it’s all about the backpack! This was the number one answer by a landslide. We asked what kind of backpack your kids love and got a huge variety of answers, from funky plaid printed bookbags, to cute tote bags that double as book holders, to laptop cases (like this adorable pink one from Marshalls) for those tech-savvy students.

and last but not least…

Do your kids want to help pick out their school supplies or do you usually shop solo?

It turns out that kids love picking out their own supplies! Parents told us that they use school shopping as a bonding experience, and include their children in their purchasing decisions.  ” I think it’s important 4 them to help. They are individuals & should show their own styles and likes,” said one mom. And that goes for younger kids as well – another mom said, ” I was surprised at how into picking stuff out my son is for preschool. He loves his backpack!”
