Glow Now: Five (Cheap) Steps to Radiant Skin

Radiant skin is every busy mom’s beauty dream. Unfortunately, the older you get, the more your natural, youthful glow will fade. Sleepless nights, sun damage and chasing never-tiring toddlers can wear on a woman!  But fear not mamas- here are 5 easy (and cheap) tips to regain your radiant skin.

1. Stay out of the sun, but get some fresh air!

The sun will damage your skin’s texture and cause dark spots and pigmentation, so be sure to always wear a hat and sunscreen. Sunglasses are also important- not only do they protect your eyes from the sun’s rays, but they prevent you from squinting which can accelerate wrinkles. Fresh air is a key ingredient to your skin’s health- oxygen is absorbed through cellular respiration. Your skin needs to breathe!  Try to stay out of the wind and cold, as it can dry your skin.

2. Exfoliate.

It’s important to slough off dead skin cells to maintain radiant skin. Experts recommend exfoliating twice weekly. Our favorite exfoliant recipe comes from our makeup and brow genius, Karen Scott. Just mix a handful of baking soda with a bit of water in your hand until it maintains the consistency of a paste. Rub it on your face in circular motions and then rinse. It’s incredible! You’ll never buy an expensive exfoliating scrub again.

3. Drink water.

This is the most important tip we can give you. Most women don’t drink enough water throughout the day (myself included!). Drink water throughout the course of the day to ensure the water is properly absorbed into your body and skin. Water helps to regenerate your cells and keep your organs functioning properly.

4. Cleanse and moisturize in the a.m. and p.m.!

It doesn’t matter whether you prefer a bar, liquid or foam, but be sure the product is right for your skin type be it oily, dry or combination. Ask your doc or dermatologist if you aren’t sure. It’s important you wash off your makeup at night to prevent breakouts, infection, flakiness and redness. Let your skin breathe! After you’ve cleansed your skin, apply a moisturizer within three minutes. You’ll seal in the moisture best in this time frame. In the a.m., apply a light moisturizer that has a built-in sunscreen. In the p.m., apply a light anti-aging moisturizer.

5. Control your stress.

When you’re stressed, the adrenal gland releases cortisone, but it also causes a rise in oil production that can make you breakout and affect the color of your skin. So do your best to stay calm and put your worries at bay. Check out ModernMom’s Ultimate Stress Relief Guide for great tips to learn to relax.

Lastly, be sure you view these tips as lifestyle changes- don’t give up if you don’t see results in a couple days. Radiant skin will take some time! Now get out there and GLOW baby!
