Sports Illustrated came in the mail this week, and on the cover was a dedication to Title IX.
40 years ago, Title IX was created to give women the right to play sports: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance…”
Not only did this amendment allow us girls to play sports as kids, but also it gave women a chance to take their skills to college and receive athletic scholarships.
With Mother’s Day this weekend, as well as the anniversary of Title IX, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at some amazing mom athletes. I struggle finding the time and energy to work out for an hour a day, while these moms have to train and work out to keep their jobs!
They set an inspiring example for us, that you can raise a family and still win Olympic medals or compete in a WNBA championship! I love it!
