Jerry Lewis Retires from MDA Telethon
More than fifty years after he debuted as the chairman of the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Jerry Lewis will not be returning to take his post at the annual MDA Telethon.
"Jerry Lewis is a world-class humanitarian, and we're forever grateful to him for his more than half century of generous service to MDA," said R. Rodney Howell, M.D., chairman of the board for the MDA.
The 85-year-old announced his retirement from the MDA chairman position in May, and stated that his last appearance would be at the 2011 Labor Day Telethon, but that will not be happening, according to Howell.
"We will not be replacing him as MDA national chairman, and he will not be appearing on the [Labor Day] telethon," Howell explained.
