Can Someone Explain Why Madonna Thought It Was OK To Post This Photo Of Her Son?

When I was in college, I was basically obsessed with
Madonna. Forget grunge rock and Nirvana, “Like a Prayer” was my go-to
karaoke song and I hung in there all the way through the Ray of Light album and
her Kabbalah phase.

But then things started to get weird. Instead of aging
gracefully, the Material Girl started trying a little bit too hard to be the
coolest fifty-something on the block.

I first pointed this out back in 2012, when she took the
stage at a music festival and asked if anyone had seen “molly” –
common slang for the chemical known as ecstasy.

At the time, I wrote that she reminded me of the “music
industry’s version of that mom who tries too hard to be cool by getting beer
for her kids and their friends.”

And OMG did she prove me right.

A few days ago, Madonna set the Internet on fire when she
posted a photo of her 13-YEAR-OLD son Rocco Ritchie and two of his friends
holding bottles of gin and vodka.

The caption: “The party has just begun! Bring it! 2014.”

Um, WHAT?

In the wake of the controversy, the 55-year-old shared
another photo of her barely-teenage son with the caption, “No one was
drinking we were just having fun! Calm down and get a sense of humor! Don’t
start the year off with judgement!”

Sorry, Madge but I don’t think there’s anything fun or funny about that photo.

I think it sends the message that underage drinking is cool
and quite honestly, it seems like you care more about being a cool mom than
being a responsible adult.

We’ve posted several articles in the past about the
importance of being your child’s best parent, not their best friend. Kids need
parents who model good decision-making, who set boundaries and enforce rules to
keep them safe.

As our own Brooke Burke wrote in a blog post, “holding
my children accountable for their actions and teaching them right from wrong is
so much more important to me than hanging out with them and filling their head
with a bunch of BS.”

Is there any possible justification for posting a picture like this? Would you ever post a photo of your teenager holding alcohol “as a joke”?
