Healthy Baked Apple Chips


Good day friends!

I hope you are having the most glorious spring. The flowers are blooming and our garden is started. The sunshine is definitely sprinkling its happy rays all over our home.

This year with the help of my father-in-law, so far we’ve planted sweet walla walla onions, chives, thyme, sage, cilantro, lavender, rosemary, artichoke, fennel, red potatoes, carrots, kale, romaine, mixed mesclun greens, peas, watermelon, pumpkin, asparagus, rhubarb, blueberry, blackberry and strawberry. We’re excited to add a few more things to the mix in a few weeks like tomatoes, peppers and basil. I’m not sure if it will happen this year or not, but I’d also love to add an apricot and walnut tree.

Gardening is so rewarding. It was only a few years ago we started with just a couple of pots. Every year it’s grown a little bit, and now this year we have 4 raised garden beds. If you haven’t started already, please do try for yourself. Vine ripened food is extremely good for your health, and the connection with nature is tremendous for the soul.

Today, I have such a light and healthy recipe to share with you. Apple chips, they make a perfect crunchy snack, and there’s only 1 ingredient. They remind me of the big bags of apple chips I used to buy shopping in the summertime at Pike Place Market in Seattle. Apple chips are easy to make at home. The prep takes no time at all, just a little bit of patience with the baking. Your house will smell divine, and the chips are so beautiful to boot.

Healthy Baked Apple Chips


Yields: 2 servings


1 apple


Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.

Line 2 baking sheets with a silpat or parchment paper.

Slice apple thinly, I recommend using a mandolin.

Place apple slices in a single layer on baking sheets.

Bake for 1 hour.

Flip over apple slices by gently peeling them up and turning over. If the apple slices start to cool making them stick more and harder to flip, put the pan back in the oven for a few minutes, then continue flipping while warm.

Continue to bake for another hour.

Turn off oven and allow apple chips to remain in the oven for 1 more hour.

*Optional – you can experiment with flavors by lightly sprinkling the apples chips before baking with your favorite spices, such as cinnamon.
