Heroes Actor Reaches Family in Haiti
On Thursday, Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis finally spoke with his mother on the phone. Until today, the actor had not been able to reach his elderly parents since the enormous earthquake struck Haiti. To make matters worse, he learned earlier this week that the home he grew up in was damaged and many of his relatives were killed.
According to CNN reports, the actor stated, "I got a phone call from my sister who said she was able to reach home. So I picked up the phone and my mom answered. The first reaction from both of us was simply to cry."
Jean-Louis said that while his parents were not hurt physically, they are mentally hurt. They have been sleeping outside for fear that that their damaged home will collapse. "They don't understand what's going on," he explained. "It's almost like saying 'Why [are we] living?' Shock is an understatement." He said that his parents have not stopped crying since the earthquake occurred.
Jean-Louis is the founder of Hollywood Unites for Haiti. Originally, the foundation was to provide cultural education to underprivileged children in Haiti. The organization is now dedicated to providing aid for earthquake survival to Haiti. John-Louis was born in Haiti.
He stated that, "I am very, very happy that there is unity. Only through unity will we be able to overcome the catastrophe."
We applaud his efforts. Our thoughts are with Jean-Louis and those affected by the earthquake in Haiti.
