California Releases Lowest Performing Schools List

California released its list of the worst schools in the state. The California Department of Education released a list of the lowest performing 5% of schools. The Los Angeles Unified School District, the nation's second largest, had a whopping 23 schools on the list.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the state will distribute grants to schools ranging from $50,000 to $2 million annually per school for up to three years. There are 190 school eligible for a grant. Schools that accept the money will have to follow one of four federally approved reform models.
