The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recalled hundreds of processed foods due to an ingredient containing salmonella. They are currently monitoring the potential risks. The ingredient is known as hydrolyzed vegetable protein, produced by Basic Food Flavors, Inc. It is a common flavor enhancer in many processed foods such as soups, sauces, chilis, stews, hot dogs, gravies, seasoned snack foods, dips, and dressings. You must check out this list- there are recalls from common brands, including Trader Joe's.
