Miami Airport Shut Down for Contamination Scare
Miami International Airport was shut down for more than 7 hours Friday after security screeners noticed a suspicious canister in a scientist's luggage. After overnight questioning by the FBI, the 70-year-old scientist was released and the canister turned out to be a part of a legitimate experiment.
During questioning, it was discovered that the man once spent time behind bars for illegally shipping vials of deadly bubonic plague bacteria. He is a U.S. citizen, but his identity has not been publicly revealed.
The airport was shut down late Thursday (understandably) after the scare and the revelation about the scientist's criminal past.
The people inside the airport as well as people picking up travelers were stuck for several hours for public safety concerns. Can't be too cautious -- especially with Sept. 11 right around the corner...
