No Wedding Bells for Sesame Street's Bert and Ernie!
The popular children's television show, "Sesame Street" has generated a lot of buzz lately. Activists have called for Bert and Ernie, two of the show's starring Muppets, to get married. There is at least one online petition, on change.org, calling for a same-sex marriage between the best friends. The petition has drawn more than 9,000 signatures.
But wedding bells won't ring for the Muppet pair. Sesame Workshop, the company that produces "Sesame Street," posted this statement on their facebook page:
"Bert and Ernie are best friends. They were created to teach preschoolers that people can be good friends with those who are very different from themselves.
Even though they are identified as male characters and possess many human traits and characteristics (as most Sesame Street Muppets™ do), they remain puppets, and do not have a sexual orientation."
Now that's a good message!
"Sesame Street" will return for its 42nd season of fun, games, education and a star-studded cast. Guest stars will include Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, Mila Kunis, Liev Schreiber, Amy Adams, Naomi Watts, James Marsden, Seth Rogen, Jason Schwartzman, Sofia Vergara, John Krasinski, Craig Ferguson, Jimmy Kimmel, Conan O’Brien and more! Wow!
Do your little ones watch "Sesame Street"?
