Texas Teen With Down Syndrome Crowned Homecoming Queen

Mariah Slick, an 18-year-old high school senior with Down syndrome from Azle, Texas, has become one of the first ever students with the condition to be crowned homecoming queen by her school on Friday night.

During halftime at Azle High School's homecoming football game, Slick was awarded the winner, beating out three other contestants who were nominated for the honor.

"I never dreamed she would be nominated homecoming queen, especially since she has special needs," her mother Susan told CBS DFW.

Known by other students for her warm personality, Mariah is one of the football team's biggsest fans and rarely misses a game.

“She is well-liked by everybody,” friend Jordan Arnold told CBS. “She is sweet - a real sweetheart!”
