Dad Delivers Baby
Imagine you are in the hospital, ready to deliver your baby, but there is one little problem - there are no doctors anywhere in sight.
For Isabel Delgado, this scenario was a reality. The mother of three and her husband, David Herrera, arrived to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in Westover Hills expecting a normal delivery experience.
Once in the delivery room, the San Antonio quickly realized that the delivery of their new, baby girl was going to be anything but.
With no doctors in sight and a wife ready to deliver, Herrera sent his nephew to search for a physician in the hospital. When the nephew returned unsuccessful, Herrera was forced to take matters into his own hands; literally.
With a pair of surgical gloves and words of encouragement from his wife, the proud father delivered his new baby girl, Isabel.
When KENS5 questioned the hospital about the incident, a representative released the following statement:
"We take patient concerns seriously and conduct internal reviews surrounding patient concerns. Labor and Delivery nurses are trained to deliver babies when delivery of the baby is imminent." - CHRISTUS Santa Rosa Health System.
