Seven Dead After Gunman Opens Fire at California College
Police in Oakland, California say a former student went on a shooting spree at a Korean-American Christian college on Monday, killing seven and injuring three people.
The gunman lined up his victims and shot them one by one, Oakland police chief Howard Jordan told reporters on Tuesday.
"This was a calculated, cold-blooded execution in the classroom,” CNN quoted him as saying.
Jordan said the shooter, allegedly South Korean-born One L. Goh entered Oikos University looking to take revenge on a particular female administrator. He was apparently upset with the school's administration for expelling him earlier in the year.
Once inside the building, he took a receptionist hostage and went looking for the administrator. When he realized she wasn't there, he shot the receptionist and then lined students up against a wall and shot them.
"This happened within minutes," Jordan told CNN. "We don't think the victims had any opportunity to resist, any opportunity to surrender."
The suspect surrendered to police a short time after the shooting, and while he has been cooperative, authorities say "he hasn't been particularly remorseful."
