Chad Ochocinco's Downward Spiral: Domestic Abuse, Divorce and Affair Allegations
Ocho oh no!
Just when it looked like Chad "Ochocinco" Johnson was getting his life back on track, the NFL wide receiver was arrested on a domestic violence charge for allegedly head-butting his wife, Evelyn Lozada.
The incident took place on Saturday night, during an argument in front of the couple's home. Although Johnson, 34, told police it was an accident, the former "Basketball Wives" star isn't changing her story.
She has since filed for divorce and released the following statement today through her publicist today:
“It is with great sadness and much trepidation that I release this statement addressing the domestic violence incident that happened this past Saturday. I am deeply disappointed that Chad has failed to take responsibility for his actions and made false accusations against me, it is my sincere hope that he seeks the help he needs to overcome his troubles."
She continued,
"Domestic violence is not okay and hopefully my taking a stand will help encourage other women to break their silence as well. I’m grateful to my family, friends and fans for the outpouring of support during this difficult time."
In the past few days, VH1 announced it was pulling the plug on the couple's reality show "Ev and Ocho," which was slated to premiere on September 3.
The Miami Dolphins also terminated Johnson's contract on Sunday night.
And just when you thought things couldn't look any worse for the man who legally changed his last name (for a time) to "Ochocinco," a woman who claims to be his former mistress has come forward.
According to Radaronline, Beverly Shiner, 30, says she dated Johnson from January until May of this year, while Lozada was planning the couple's wedding. (The pair tied the knot on the Caribbean island of St. Martin last month.)
"Once, when I was at his house, I asked what would happen if Evelyn walked in right now, and he said she wouldn’t care," Shiner told the website. "He said, 'I’m not doing anything different than what every other man is doing,' he thinks it is fine to cheat."
