Cancer Patient Marries in Touching Hospital Chapel Ceremony

Most people have months to plan their dream wedding but for one couple in Colorado, time isn't a luxury they're willing to waste.

26-year-old Heather Taylor is a breast cancer survivor who is now battling a brain tumor. Recently, her prognosis became more serious as doctors say the cancer has spread to her spinal fluid.

After an especially tough week in intensive care, her boyfriend Jimmy New decided to propose.

"Wednesday night, I came in and lowered the bed down, so that I could get down on a knee, and do it the right way - and I asked her to marry me," New told 9NEWS. "There's nobody I would rather spend the rest of my life with than the woman sitting right next to me."

The couple tied the knot in a touching ceremony in the chapel at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood, Colorado.

Heather's wheelchair was decorated with pink balloons as she was wheeled through the ICU. Her nine-year-old son handed his mother a bouquet of flowers before the couple exchanged vows.

"We love each other," said Heather. "We've been through thick and thin already and it's time to make it official."
