Couple Turns to Twitter to Aid in Adoption Process

One Michigan couple is hoping that a bird will bring them a baby - but it's no stork!

After three unsuccesful years on a small agency’s waiting list, Rick and Erika Jones are using Twitter to help them adopt.

Now, it's no secret that the adoption process can be emotionally and physically trying - with untold amounts of paperwork and red tape to sift through before one can even be placed on the waiting list for a child. American parents who want to adopt domestically often wait years - and spend thousands of dollars - before being matched with a child.

The Jones lacked the financial means to publicize their profile through a larger agency with more connections and as a result, they have had a hard time making their case known.

Determined to adopt, they turned to the ultimate center for connections and publicity: the Internet. The couple is using Twitter to appeal to celebrities and members of the media to tweet their adoption profile.

Rick began his Twitter campaign in May, from the handle @rjman48. Since then, the Jones have been retweeted by some impressive celebrities and personalities, including Kate Gosselin, Al Roker, and MTV Teen Moms.

And while Rick and Erica are still playing the waiting game, hoping that they will be chosen to adopt a child, they've received a tremendous outpouring of support.

How do you feel about tweeting an adoption profile on Twitter - creative or going too far?
