Garbage Truck Driver Saves Baby

Jeff Blackburn, a garbage truck driver from Seattle, proved to be a real life super hero when he rescued a baby strapped inside a runaway stroller that was heading for traffic.

On May 31, Blackburn was on his normal route when he spotted a young mom jogging with her baby in a stroller. She stopped to chat with her friends and turned the stroller sideways at the top of the hill. Suddenly, the stroller started rolling towards a busy intersection. That's when Blackburn sprung into action.

He started honking his horn to alert any oncoming traffic and used his truck to block the intersection. "Luckily, when I was honking the horn, a FedEx truck was going through the intersection and stopped because he heard the horn honking," he told KOMO News in a video interview.

He was able to catch up with the stroller, and found the baby smiling obliviously inside.

"He seemed to be having a great time rolling down the hill... he seemed to enjoy it," Blackburn said.

Shortly after, the baby's panicked mom caught up. “She was freaked out and shaking,” he said in the interview. “I don’t think she even said anything… She was really shook up.”

While he's being hailed as a hero, Blackburn shrugged off the praise, saying he was “just in the right place at the right time."
