Booklovers, rejoice. The allure of the printed page is not entirely dead after all!
Wallpaper magazine has collaborated with celebrated perfumier Geza Schoen and Karl Lagerfeld of Chanel to develop "Paper Passion" - a wearable fragrance inspired by the smell of books.
According to the Steidl website, the perfume was created for the Handmade exhibition in Milan, and retails for $115.
The bottle is nestled appropriately inside a book that features text by Karl Lagerfeld, Gunter Grass, Geza Shoen, and Tony Cambers (according the Steidle page).
Regarding the presentation, Schoen says, “You have a book, you open it, there’s a bottle inside, and it smells of a book. It might be quirky, but the idea has a simplicity, a linearity.”
Lagerfeld’s interest in the scent stems from his belief that “the smell of a freshly printed book is the best smell in the world.”
