Missing Baby Found After Eight Years Will Be Reunited With His Mother
A Texas mother whose baby was abducted eight years ago will soon be reunited with her son, after police found the boy living with his former babysitter.
Miguel Morin went missing in 2004 when he was only eight months old along with his sitter, Krystle Rochelle Tanner, who was a family friend and the boy's godmother.
Tanner has been arrested on charges of kidnapping and is currently in custody, and pending the results of a DNA test, Miguel will be returned to his mother, Auboni Champion-Morin.
“I want to hold him in my arms and let him know who I am,” Champion-Morin told TV station KPRC. “I hope he can feel the same thing I feel for him.”
Police investigated the boy's disappearance for two years without making any progress and closed the case in 2006. But last summer, child welfare investigators in San Augustine County (which is about 150 miles northeast of Houston, where Champion-Morin lives) received a complaint that Tanner and her boyfriend were neglecting their two children.
When they tried to find the older boy, Tanner told them conflicting stories about his whereabouts. Finally authorities discovered that she was a suspect in the 2004 kidnapping of Miguel, and a relative led them to the child.
Champion-Morin told reporters that she never stopped hoping her son would be returned to her.
“I prayed every night that he was safe, loved and he would come home one day," she said.
