Time Magazine's Controversial Breastfeeding Cover
A photo of a mother breastfeeding her son sounds pretty tame - but what about when the mother is standing up, nursing her three-year-old son perched on a chair to reach her breast?
It's the latest cover of Time Magazine - and it's stirring up quite the controversy.
The accompanying article is about "attachment parenting" and the man behind the movement, Dr. Bill Sears. He's a parenting educator who advocates child-rearing techniques such as extended breastfeeding, co-sleeping and baby-wearing.
But instead of featuring the 70-something pediatrician on the cover, the magazine chose Jamie Lynne Grumet, a slender blonde 26-year-old wearing skinny jeans and a tank top, with her chest thrust out and a partially exposed breast alongside the headline "Are You Mom Enough?"
Critics are calling the move a desperate bid to create controversy.
"@Time no! You missed the mark! You're supposed to be making it easier for breast-feeding moms. Your cover is exploitive & extreme," tweeted actress Alyssa Milano.
