The Wiggles Shake Things Up: Purple, Yellow and Red are Leaving the Band
Three of the original members of The Wiggles will be turning in their "skivvies" and leaving the Australian band this year.
Jeff Fatt (Purple Wiggle), Greg Page (Yellow Wiggle), and Murray Cook (Red Wiggle) will do one more tour before saying goodbye to the group. Their replacements will join the lone original member - Anthony Field (Blue Wiggle).
“We’ve been entertaining children around the world for 21 years now and it has been a fantastic ride in our Big Red Car,” the band said in a statement on their site. "It's important that we plan for the future so that The Wiggles can keep wiggling in the years to come."
Who will take over their colored jumpers? The new Wiggles will be Emma Watkins, Lachlan Gillespie, and Simon Pryce - who have all performed as various characters in the show over the years.
The news has really shaken up the children's music scene:
"For millions of toddlers and parents across the world, it is comparable to John, George and Ringo leaving the Beatles," wrote the Sydney Herald.
At the peak of their success, the Wiggles were named Australia's top earning entertainers for four years running, with earnings of up to $45 million a year. In fact, since the group was founded in 1991, they've sold more 30 million albums.
What's your favorite Wiggle's song? We're especially partial to "Fruit Salad."
