Ted Koppel is mourning the loss of his son Andrew, 40, who died early Monday morning after a daylong drinking binge.
"Our son, Andrew, was a brilliant, caring man, whose loss we will mourn for the rest of our lives," the TV newsman and his wife, Grace Anne Dorney Koppel, said in a statement Tuesday.

Al Gore and his wife Tipper have decided to end their 40-year marriage. The former Vice President said in an email to family and friends obtained by the Associated Press: "We are announcing today that after a great deal of thought and discussion, we have decided to separate. This is very much a mutual and mutually supportive decision that we have made together following a process of long and careful consideration. U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen confirmed Thursday engineers have temporarily stopped the Gulf of Mexico oil leak. The oil spill has been named the worst in our nation's history. The Coast Guard estimated the flow at 5,000 barrels a day.
