Whether you're married, dating, or whatever, finding something to do with that special someone (besides the obvious, *wink wink*) on Valentine's Day can be difficult. Maybe you've done every romantic activity in the book, or perhaps this is your first February 14th together and you want to make it really special. No matter what stage your relationship is in, these suggestions are sure to satisfy any couple looking to celebrate the love in their lives! Start your day early
What’s worse than having to replace your kid’s favorite pair of Gap jeans? Sure, maybe they’re old or stained or tattered or whatever, but your kids love the way they feel! How will you ever find another pair that fits them as well?! Don’t fret! One word can help you overcome the task of buying new jeans and trying to save your old, beloved pair: RECYCLE.
Getting a stomach ache is the WORST! The pain, or sometimes the feeling that you're going to ralph at any second, is just another thing that moms have to deal with every once in a while in addition to the gazillion other tasks they must complete in a day. There's no way to prevent those fluke tummy tumults--food poisoning, for example--that hit unexpectedly. There are, however, some general guidelines you can follow in order to stay as far away as possible from the other stuff--indigestion, constipation, gas, diarrhea, etc.
Summer's here in full swing as I sit here in the 76 degree weather of my Southern California home. I have two words (sounds?): Woo hoo!
So, it just came out that my former governor had an illegitimate child with one of his household staffers over ten years ago. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver have been married for 25 years. 25 YEARS!! Does that mean nothing to him?! It's an understatement to say that it's so pathetic he had to go and do something like this--something that he knew could ruin his life and change it irreversibly. Arnold, I thought you were one of the few good guys left in Hollywood/California's political arena!
Confession: I have 738 Facebook friends. In reality, I would only actually call up a handful of them to go to lunch with or to talk to while I'm making a long drive. I only talk to a couple dozen of them in person on a regular basis. And I sure as heck do not care that that one girl I met in college who friend requested me 5 minutes after we introduced ourselves is "going to work...then having a grilled chicken salad for lunch YUM! xoxo". Maybe this seems rude, but I don't expect them to care about what I'm doing every second of the day either!
Patricia Richardson was a very important mother throughout the '90s. Not only did she help raise her three fictional sons on the sitcom "Home Improvement", but she also had three children of her own to think of! Richardson played the do-it-all mom Jill Taylor on the popular TV series for eight seasons, but despite all the parenting practice on the show, the 60-year-old still admits that she's "wired wrong for parenting". All moms make mistakes, Patricia, don't worry!
One day. One short day! Those are the words I imagine are doing roller coaster loops in Kate Middleton's mind right about now. She is set to marry His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales on Friday morning, making her the luckiest girl in the world, I'm pretty sure. If anyone is livin' the dream right now, it is most definitely Kate Middleton.
Teens and sex. Sex and teens. How do you relate the two in your mind? Many parents and adults "see nothing but a blur of bare midriffs. They think things are terrible and getting worse," said Bill Albert, chief program officer for the National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy.
Every mom has experienced them, and if you're not at that stage yet...just wait! The stroke of the clock that ushers in your child's toddler years also starts the ruthless era of the temper tantrum. Patty Onderko from Parenting.com helped us figure out the rationale behind your child's emotional explosions.
I'd like to share my current obsession with you, ModernMoms. Two words: WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY. I don't think I'll ever shake this new love of mine! No, I'm not planning a wedding. No, I'm not a photographer. I'm just a girl who gets giddy when I discover a new blog or website with dreamy photos from someone's magical wedding. Usually I don't even know the bride and groom, but their pictures still melt my heart--I'm a sucker for this kind of stuff!
Room to Read is an organization that believes the world should be a place where all children can "pursue a quality education that enables them to reach their full potential and contribute to their community and the world". In doing this, they focus on literacy and gender equality in education in developing countries by teaching kids how to read and supporting girls to complete secondary school with the life skills needed to succeed in school and afterward.
Talk about unforgettable! The Friends of Scott Foundation is doing something awesome for some very ill teenagers in San Diego, CA on March 4th, 2011. Kids who've been diagnosed with cancer at Rady Children's Hospital and Kaiser Permanente Hospital in San Diego will be treated to a fun-filled evening where they can forget about their disease and dance the night away. They'll be given the movie star treatment--red carpet and limousine included!--during a very special prom night at the San Diego Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
Although almost the entire country was under a thick layer of fluffy white snow about a week ago, America's favorite groundhog told us on February 2nd to pack up the parkas and slap on the sandals. Feeling a little blue about the weather right now, I'll believe anything Punxsutawney Phil says if it means spring is coming early this year!
They seem to be everywhere. On celebs walking through Beverly Hills, on teenagers walking from class to class, and on models walking down the runway. So what are these magic pants? JEGGINGS!
Valentine's Day. Some couples--well, girls--look forward to it for months. The preparation, the gifts, the sweet little nothings that make the evening special...all that is great, but what if you don't have a special someone to spend the special day with? Are you destined to waste the night away watching cheesy romantic comedies and stuffing your squirrel cheeks with See's and Dreyer's? Are you supposed to put on a happy face until you go to bed, when your big brown eyes will cry until your mascara reaches your chin?
It's 7am. Time to get up, make coffee, and drive the kids to school. Into the office by 8:30am and work work work--as much as you can get done before you have to pick up the kids again! Quick, get them a snack, then continue the taxi service...soccer practice for Shane at 3pm and piano lessons for Becca at 3:30. Both kids are back home by 5pm and it's time to get them started on their homework. Dinner is halfway done by 6pm and Daddy walks in the door fifteen minutes later. Cook it, plate it, serve it, and spaghetti and meatballs for dinner is a success.
Who would you trust for advice on your health and fitness? Surely a doctor, but how about someone who's practically an expert at staying in shape while balancing a full and very busy life! Part of Brooke Burke's job is essentially to look smokin' hot and boy, does she do it well! In this exclusive ModernMom interview, the fabulous and fitness-minded mommy dishes on why you should shock your body, the routine that gave her a KILLER butt, and how she looks SO darn good after poppin' out four (count 'em, 1-2-3-4!) kids!
Women like Kate Hudson, Natalie Portman, Selma Blair, and Christina Applegate are all pregnant, but what else do they have in common? They're also unmarried. This trend is and has been happening throughout Hollywood, but it hasn't stopped there. The rate of unwed mothers in the United States has more than doubled since the 1980s.
Fiber. It's one of those things that sometimes escapes the mind when thinking of nutritious essentials, but it's darn important! It's a special type of carbohydrate found mainly on the outer layer of plants that helps fuel the body. Why so unique? Well, it passes through the human digestive system nearly unchanged--that's right, it never breaks down.
Imagine this: You're 12 years old and you come home from school on a gloomy, rainy day. After sloshing around in giant puddles all day, all you really want to do is curl with a blanket and sit in front of the fireplace...with your homework, of course (thanks Mom!). It seems like hours have passed by when Mom's "Dinner!" call finally reaches your ears. You walk up to the table and what do you see, sitting in a big bowl with steam rising toward the ceiling? SPAGHETTI. The perfect comfort food.
What have mothers always told their daughters as they enter the dating world? Sit with your legs crossed tight...men are always thinking about sex! Well, if moms are being fair, they'd share a little warning with their sons too: Protect your wallet and your fridge...women are always thinking about food!

John Travolta and Kelly Preston are elated and eagerly waiting for the arrival of their new family addition, a son who will be named Benjamin.
The holidays...they always remind us to give back! And that's exactly what Brooke Burke and a host of other celebs did on Sunday.
A "burqa" is an enveloping outer garment worn by women in some Islamic traditions to cover their bodies in public places. The burqa can refer to the woman's loose body-covering plus the head-covering and face-veil, but is more generally understood to refer to just the head-covering. I, like many others, have seen women wearing these pieces, but have never truly understood their significance. I always assumed they were a vestige of cultural and religious tradition, and I never expected them to be at the root of such uproarious controversy. But since France's recent ban of most types of face-coverings, these little pieces of fabric have spurred other European countries to consider similar laws and inspired fear in French Muslims that the rule will permanently stigmatize them.
The birth of a first child could be one of the most life-changing experiences EVER.
Canada became the first country in the world to declare Bisphenol-A (BPA) a toxin on September 23rd, 2010. The decision comes as a relief to many, but is also in opposition to some major research by Europe and the United States. Here's where the facts stand in the BPA issue.
Denise Richards faces the same problems that many single moms face: trying to co-parent and start dating again, even with a hectic schedule. The hot mama stopped by The Grove in LA to talk to "Extra's" Mario Lopez about how she's raising her gorgeous little ladies, 5 and 6, with ex-husband Charlie Sheen.
Many families have to travel great distances in order to get treatment for their seriously ill or injured children. The long distances and grueling treatments can take their tolls -- being away from home for so long and dividing a family make the painful process of treatment or recovery more difficult for everyone. Especially for children, there is nothing scarier than not having mom and dad with you for love and support when you need them most.
Everyone gets a shudder down their spine at the utterance of the word "cancer." Images, memories, experiences, and fear swell our minds and stop mental traffic for a few moments at the mere mention of the word. Women experience an added chill when we think about breast cancer. Thousands of people have survived the disease, thousands more have died from it, and thousands of millions have been affected by it one way or another -- whether through family, friends, co-workers, or strangers, the disease touches everyone in some form. But this month (and every month, hopefully!), our hearts go out to those with the scariest and most devastating form of this life-threatening disease: Metastatic breast cancer patients.
Unfortunately, not all of us have the metabolism of a 16-year-old track star. (Darn!) We thus resort to diets to shed the pounds we don't want to see anymore. From standard "cut the carbs and fat" diets, to more institutionalized diets like Jenny Craig or Weight Watchers, there are pound-cutting strategies for everyone's taste. There are also some wacky, or "nontraditional" shall I say, diets that cater to our bolder sisters who have nothing to lose (figuratively, of course!). We talk about eating healthy and safe dieting frequently here at ModernMom, but now we want to know something from you! What is the strangest diet you've ever been on?
Mario Lopez's beauty sleep requirement is not being met these days, but being a dad is SO worth it!
It's the tragic story everyone's been talking about: 33 miners have been trapped 2,300 feet below the earth's surface in a mine located in the northern Chilean city of Copiapo, 500 miles north of Santiago. As if that's not bad enough, they've been down there since August 5th and only 21 have been lifted out as of this afternoon's rescue. This story is as sad as it is terrifying, and it is debatable whether it's caused more grief for the miners themselves or for those they've left on the surface.

Denise Richards seems to be a fantastic mom. Down to earth and super hands-on, the actress says, "We have dinner every night at the same time - a homemade meal - and we just talk."
Reverse psychology. We've all heard of it and probably know what it is, but have you actually tried it on your kids? The thing is, you try to be the best parent you can be, but sometimes life doesn't prepare you for those unexpected moments when a parent wonders, "Uhhh, what the heck do I say?!"
After thirteen years with Victoria's Secret, Heidi Klum is turning in her angel wings. The 37-year-old bombshell has decided that it's time for a change and is leaving the lingerie company after more than a decade as "Head Angel". Though many men mourn this loss, Victoria's Secret's most recognizable face is going in good spirits! "All good things have to come to an end. I will always love Victoria's Secret ...
Denim is so versatile, ya know what I mean? You can dress it up or dress it down and wear it with a million things. But for your kids, the potential for this one pair of pants is limitless -- a parent's dream jeans, you could say! Here are five simple ways to spice up your kiddo's denim.
Jada Pinkett Smith has always been a show stopping stunner thanks to her natural beauty and fierce sense of fashion.
Believe it or not, the holiday season is looming near and soon it'll be time to start shopping around for gifts for your family and friends. True, the holidays can take a toll on your bank account, but there are ways to avoid this, especially when your kid rips open his expensive, new toy on Christmas morning only to accidentally ruin it five minutes later. Advanced technology has been popping up in children's toys and gadgets this year, but the surprising and awesome part of this is that price tags are not being hiked along with it.
The Bachelor and Dancing With The Stars alum Melissa Rycroft has dealt with her share of surprising, excited, and confusing news, but this one may be the topper! "We got our first report, got all excited and then we went back a few weeks later and it was a conflicting report," Rycroft, who hosts Bachelor Pad with Christ Harrison, said a the Juno Baby Celebrity Launch in New York City. “We’re not sure, hopefully ...

Celebrity moms are struttin' their stuff in cargos this season, and J Brands are thei
Here's an easy one-question quiz: What is the easiest summer trend that literally anyone can adopt? Answer: Stacking bangles!
YELLOW. It doesn't have to be a scary color! In fact, as summer's hottest trend, this color is taking the world by storm -- not just in the fashion sphere, but everywhere. And it's not confined to a single palate either -- canary, banana, sunshine, buttercup, and lemon are just a few of the shades of this multi-dimensional tint. There's a reason this playful hue is popular: it's the color of sun, sand, happiness, and friendship...and everything you'll own from here on.
It looks like we'll officially be seeing the Gosselin twins and sextuplets on their mommy's new show "Kate Plus 8". "Each child is individually permitted, and they need to be renewed every six months," said spokesman Troy Thompsom of the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. While the Gosselins and show producers have maintained that the kids' appearances on the show did not merit work permits, the state of Pennsylvania deemed them necessary ...
This may sound crazy, but it might be true: Are you addicted to tanning and could addiction treatments help prevent skin cancer? According to a new study, a significant percentage of those who use tanning beds meet standard criteria for addiction and report higher levels of anxiety and substance abuse. If this is really accurate, treatment for people who suffer addictions may contribute to a lower rate of skin cancer.
Entertaining a crying toddler can be difficult. Five years ago moms would have said, "Bring on the coloring books and crayons!" But now parents everywhere are chiming in with, "Take my phone, pick an app, and keep yourself busy."
Did you watch Glee last night? I did, and was sadly not surprised at one of the main themes flowing through the entire episode: SEX. Last night's whole show was a tribute to Madonna, and one of the key songs of the episode, a cover of "Like a Virgin", was belted out during a montage featuring three people (two of them in the high school glee club) being "touched for the very first time"...if you know what I mean.
...in the long run, that is. According to a preliminary study presented Thursday at a session of the Population Association of America meeting in Dallas, the age at which you have kids can affect your overall life earnings.

You've seen her every six to eight weeks for years and her stylish cuts have boosted your confidence every time she sends you out the salon door back into reality. Moms, it's that time of year again! The week that kids look forward to all winter long, and the week that parents don't... Spring break has been underway around the country for a few weeks now, and whether you have one kid on break or multiple home at different times, it's easy to run out of ways to entertain them. Luckily, it's just as easy to jump back into the spring break attitude with a few fresh ideas and activities. The kids will have so much fun they won't want to go back to school on Monday morning! (Uh oh, is that a good thing?)
