Mary-Louise Parker's Plug For Adoption

Mary Louise Parker is mother to son, William, 5 (his dad is Billy Crudup) and adopted daughter Caroline Ash Aberash. The Weeds actress planned to adopt since she was young.

At the Worldwide Orphans Foundation Benefit Gala she said “Some people are drawn to do it, and I felt like if I don’t do it now, I’m going to regret it my whole life, so I just went ahead and did it, " referring to her adoption of Caroline from Ethiopia in 2007.

As for adoption, she tells OK! that there is "no downside to it. Unless you’re a mean, horrible person and you plan to make them clean your garbage up or something, there’s nothing bad about it. It’s only good. This is going to sound very strange, but even if you’re a mediocre parent, you’re going to give them way more than they have now. You’re going to give them attention, food and clothes.”

Interesting perspective, but actually quite true.

The Emmy-award winning actress says her experience with adoption has been "magical, it's amazing, it's profound, it's dramatic and it's hard." She went on to say "I'm so glad I'm doing it."

When asked the biggest thing she's learned about herself since becoming a mom - her answer was “That I don’t know anything.”

Isn't that the truth! Motherhood certainly is humbling!

I think Mary-Louise is an amazing woman. I don't know how she felt after Billy left her pregnant but the challenge seems to have made her stronger. I love her show Weeds and even though her parenting on the show is highly questionable, I think she is 100% correct that having parents that love you and take care of you is what matters. None of us are perfect and like her character Nancy, we are just trying our best with our circumstances. Give yourself a break as a mother and just focus on loving your child. It is really that simple.
