Elizabeth Banks Welcomes Second Son via Surrogate

"Hunger Games" star Elizabeth Banks and her husband Max Handelman have welcomed their second son via gestational surrogate.

The 38-year-old actress shared the news on her website today:

“As 2012 winds down and Thanksgiving approaches, I have much for which to be thankful - personal, professional, and Presidential.

However, nothing can match the joy and excitement my husband and I felt when we recently welcomed our second baby boy," she wrote.

The baby's name: Magnus Mitchell

The newest member of the Banks-Handelman family joins brother Felix, who is 20 months old. As their mom jokes, "“Magnus joins older brother Felix, thus commencing a decade or more of close hand to hand combat.”

Banks has been open about her struggle with infertility, explaining in a previous interview, "It was a womb issue for me. Embryos wouldn’t implant.”

When sharing the news about Magnus, she added that the experience of using a gestational surrogate "has exceeded all expectations, taught us a great deal about generosity and gratitude, and established a relationship that will last a lifetime."

Banks isn't the only celebrity mom who has welcomed a child via surrogate. Here are a few other famous parents who have gone that route:

- Giuliana and Bill Rancic welcomed son Edward Duke via surrogate after a highly documented struggle with fertility and a breast cancer diagnosis.

- Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban have two girls - Sunday Rose and Faith Margaret born via surroogate.

- When Sarah Jessica Parker and husband Matthew Broderick faced fertility issues, they turned to a surrogate, who delivered their twin daughters Marion and Tabitha in June 2009.

Do you know anyone who had a surrogacy experience?
