It's official - Mariah Carey has signed on as a judge for the upcoming season of American Idol.
The announcement that the 42-year-old pop diva will join the show comes on the heels for Steven Tyler's exit. Jennifer Lopez will also not return to the judges table.
"I am so excited to be joining Idol," Carey told reporters via speakerphone.
"First of all, I wanted to be there today and I wish I could've been there to tell you, but I think you know this all kind of just happened real quickly, so I can't wait to get started in a couple months… I will see you in January!"
She is reportedly getting paid north of $12 million for the season.
But that's not the only big news from the singer this week. On Saturday, she shared on Twitter that her new single, called "Triumphant (Get 'Em)," is coming out in early August.
