Report: Tony Scott Had Inoperable Brain Cancer

Tony Scott, the director of “Top Gun,” “Days of Thunder,” and “Beverly Hills Cop II,” died Sunday after jumping from a bridge in the Los Angeles Harbor.

As the investigation into the 68-year-old filmmaker’s apparent suicide continues, an unnamed source told ABC News that Scott had been diagnosed with inoperable brain cancer.

No further medical details were available.

Witnesses told authorities that the filmmaker parked his Toyota Prius on the Vincent Thomas Bridge on Sunday afternoon, climbed a fence and leapt without hesitating.

Los Angeles Port police pulled his body from the water several hours later. The Los Angles Times reported that a suicide note was recovered in his office, the contents of which have not been disclosed.

Scott is the younger brother of director-producer Ridley Scott (best known for “Alien” and “Gladiator”).  He is survived by his wife Donna Scott, and twin sons.
