- At Home
Did you watch the Closing Ceremonies on Sunday?
One of the most buzzed-about performances came from the Spice Girls, who rocked the stadium after entering a-top bedazzled British cabs.
Singing some of their biggest hits - “Wannabe” and “Spice Up Your Life” - the ladies transported fans around the world back to the ‘90s with memories of karaoke sing-alongs at slumber parties, making friendship bracelets, and thread-wrapping each other’s hair.
Even the UK’s Prime Minister, David Cameron, and London’s Mayor, Boris Johnson, were getting down with their bad selves to “Spice Up Your Life.”
So where have the girls been in the last decade (Ughh… there’s no way it was that long ago!)? Take a look at "Spice Girls: Then and Now":
Posh Spice - Victoria Adams is now Victoria Beckham, and arguably the luckiest of the Spice Girls. She married dreamy David Beckham, and they started a family which now includes four beautiful kids. The youngest (and only girl) Harper Seven has already been deemed a style icon - taking after her mom, who launched her own fashion line in 2007. Last night at the Closing Ceremony, she was even named among the Best British Designers alongside Burberry and Alexander McQueen.
Baby Spice - Emma Bunton was the youngest member of the Spice Girls, and won us over with her pigtails and cute as a button face. Since the group went their separate ways in 2001, she has released two solo albums that were both certified gold for selling more than 100,000 copies. Now, Baby is working as a radio host for Heart FM on Saturdays and raising two sons - Beau Lee and Tate Lee - with long-time boyfriend Jade Jones.
Ginger Spice - Geri Halliwell left the Spice Girls in 1999 to start her own solo career, thus bringing about the beginning of the end of the Spice Girls. As a solo artist, the woman known as Ginger Spice has been quite successful, selling more than 12 million copies of her three albums. She has also authored two autobiographies, the second of which will be released later this year. She has one child, daughter Bluebell Madonna Halliwell (Posh and Baby Spice are the godmothers). And like Posh, Ginger is trying her hand at fashion design - but focusing on bikinis rather than couture.
Scary Spice - Mel B, or Melanie Brown, had the craziest hair and the boldest personality of the bunch. When she sang "Wannabe,” she made us all wannabe just like her. After the girls broke up, Scary tried her hand at a solo career, acting and writing - and she reminded us why she was awesome during her first go-round in Dancing with the Stars in 2007. She's also a mom, with three children, including her daughter with Eddie Murphy - Angel Iris Murphy Brown.
Sporty Spice - Mel C, or Melanie Chisholm, showed off her abs in awesome track pants and a high ponytail. After the split, she battled depression and an eating disorder, but came back strong in 2003 with a second solo album. Sporty holds the record as the only woman to rank number one on the UK Official Singles Chart as part of a quartet, quintet, duo, and solo.
