SMILING IT FORWARD™ through Doctors Visits

Do you remember taking your baby to the doctor for the first time? I clearly remember taking my first baby to the doctor knowing she had to get a shot. It broke my heart to hear her cry.

For the rest of her first year I gave her TYLENOL® right before we went to the doctor when I knew she would be getting shots. This really helped her be more comfortable during the doctor visit and definitely after. It also helped me not feel so sad because she wouldn’t be so uncomfortable.

My son on the other hand was a different story. When he got his 1 year shots, he looked at the doctor like “what the heck man?” Then started to push the doctor’s hand away. The doctor held his hands back and gave him the shot in the leg. My son just looked at the doctor with not a single tear in his eyes but gave him evil eye. Once he got the lollipop, all was forgiven!

But even when the shots hurt, after a minute of tears, my kids would wipe their eyes and be back to their happy little selves. It’s so hard to see our kids in pain but the smiles that come after they are feeling better makes you forget everything else. Sure enough if someone is feeling grumpy in our house, a smile and laughter from someone else soon becomes contagious and we are all smiling it forward.
