Tips for Healthy Summer Entertaining

BBQ season is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean you have to leave healthy living behind. Let these 5 healthy entertaining tips help you win summer without sacrificing taste, fun, or your health goals.

Give them Something to Crunch On

Swap out traditional appetizers for a plate of crudites. Serve up veggies sticks with a variety of healthier alternatives to everyone’s favorite dips like hummus, yogurt dip, and guacamole. Your friends and family won’t be missing those chips and finger foods for long.

Get Moving

Pump up the party with a fun summer playlist. The right soundtrack will set the mood for dancing and even swimming. Set out some classic lawn games like ladder toss, corn hole or bocce ball and start moving. And don’t forget laughter really is the best medicine, have fun and burn a few extra calories.

Drink Light

You don’t have to sacrifice a delicious fruity cocktail, certainly my favorite kind. Instead reach for drinks with real ingredients and no artificial sweeteners.

Cook in Season

Get creative with your favorite summer foods. Take advantage of fresh ingredients and get inspired to create a twist on classic summer entrees. Try pizza brimming with fresh summer veggies straight on the grill; it gives the pizza a delicious fire-roasted flavor. Cooking in season is a great way to keep costs down too and serve up some delicious nutrient-rich foods.

Enjoy the Lighter Side of Sweet

Keep the grill warm after dinner and grill up some sweetness. The natural sugars in fruits like pineapple, banana, peaches, and mangoes caramelize beautifully on the grill. Skewer them for fruit kabobs or place on top of angel food cake or ice-cream with a dollop of whipped cream.
