Halloween “Slimer” Cake Pop Recipe

Are you looking for a fun and festive Halloween dessert idea? We’ve got just the thing! These creative “slimy” cake pops from our friends over at Stick&Pop is perfect for a holiday bash.

“We think this one is really fun for families and for moms who don’t want to wrap pops but want to present something fun on a platter. Plus, it’s very forgiving in terms of how “pretty” the pops should be–the wackier, the better.”

“Slimer” Cake Pop Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 baked and cooled cake, any flavor (store bought or try our vanilla cake recipe below)
  • Frosting, any flavor (store bought or our vanilla frosting recipe below)
  • Melted white chocolate, for dipping
  • Candy eyeballs, in your desired colors
  • Green-colored corn syrup (pre-mixed with green food coloring to resemble the slime)
  • Prepared lime Jell-O, on a flat platter or dish
  • Sticks, for dipping pops

To make the cake pop dough:

1.  Begin by crumbling your fully baked and cooled cake with fingers, and adding crumbled pieces into the mixer.

2.  On slow speed, begin adding vanilla frosting into the mixer, one spoonful at a time.  Let the mixture start to combine, adding more frosting as needed.  The mix will be pulling off the sides of the bowl when close to the desired texture.  It will be a dense, cookie dough-like consistency when finished, not too sticky, but able to mold and hold itself together well.

3.  Begin taking tablespoon sized portions of dough and rolling this into balls.  Place balls on lined baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 20-30 minutes.  The cool temperature will help the cake ball stick on the stick while dipping them in the chocolate.

4.  While refrigerating, melt your milk, dark, or white chocolate over a double boiler, on low heat.  Stir a few times during this process to help the chocolate melt evenly, which will create a smooth texture that will allow for easy dipping.

5.  When cake balls are ready, place each on a stick and begin dipping in the chocolate.  Shake off any excess chocolate, making sure that the balls are evenly coated.  Sprinkle with your favorite sprinkles and allow to dry.

To make the “Slimer” Pops:

1.  Taking small teaspoon-sized portions of the cakepop dough, smash together to create a blob-like creature, somewhat like a melted snowman.  Cool shapes in refrigerator for 20-30 minutes until slightly firm.  This will assure that the cake will stay on the stick when dipping.

2.  Place a stick in the top of each Slimer.  Dip each pop in white chocolate, and place two eyeballs in position while chocolate is still wet.  Allow each to dry after before further decorating.

3.  Dot a small amount of white chocolate directly onto the candy balls to complete each eyeball (or only one if he’s a Cyclops!)

4.  After dipped pops have fully set, dunk each of the Slimer pops in the green-colored corn syrup mixture.  The “slime” will run off slightly from the pops, as intended.

5.  After each pop is slimed, place on platter or dish on top of the Jell-O.
