Meryl Streep is showing the world that romance is for women of all ages. At 60, Streep is still playing the lead in romantic comedies. She told Vanity Fair magazine that “Bette Davis is rolling over in her grave” because of this. She is starring in the upcoming (looks to be hilarious) romantic comedy “It’s Complicated” with Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.
Not only is she making these movies, she’s hugely successful. Streep was the third highest earning actress on the Forbes list for June 2008 to June 2009 (first and second were Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Aniston, respectively).
It’s so great that a truly amazing older actress is still so appealing to Hollywood and to viewers!
“I’ve been given great, weird, interesting parts well past my ‘Sell by’ date,” she said. “I remember saying to Don [Meryl’s husband] when I was 38, ‘Well, it’s over.’ And then we kicked the can down the road a little further.”
Streep is an incredible actress and I think she’ll be kicking that can for a long long time. At least I hope so.
