Brooke Burke Cooks Salmon in the Dishwasher!

January 11, 2017 by Brooke Burke Leave a Comment

Ok, you might be asking yourself, “Salmon in the Dishwasher? No way! Well, I know it may sound crazy but you can make the perfect poached salmon in just your dishwasher. I swear! Still a little skeptical? Trust me, I do it! Try it- you won’t believe how delicious it is!

The recipe is simple and easy. There is no right or wrong way to prepare it and you can add ingredients or remove some according to what your family likes. I’m one of those cooks who uses “a little of this and a little of that” like my grandma taught me. There’s lots of wiggle room to alter this. Have fun, be creative and go for it!

Ingredients

  • 1 salmon fillet (or whole salmon, any size works)
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine (I like sauvignon blanc)
  • 1 whole shallot chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic chopped
  • 4 sprigs of fresh dill

Preparation

Place the salmon in heavy duty foil (you can use 2 large pieces if need be) and flip up all 4 sides so that the liquids don’t fall out (sort of like a bowl).  There should be enough foil to make a pouch with a little room for steam inside.  You fold the foil around the piece of salmon leaving room at the top for the fish to steam inside the pouch you are creating.  Add the rest of the ingredients.  Pinch/roll the sides of the foil together to create a sealed pouch. Again, leave a little room between the top of the pouch and the fish for steam.

Perfectly Poached Salmon

Place the salmon pouch on the top rack of the dishwasher and put it through for a cycle – every dishwasher is different, but usually the “normal” cycle works just fine. When the cycle is done, remove the pouch and voila – perfectly poached salmon! I like to garnish the salmon with fresh dill and some lemon slices. You can serve it cold with yogurt dill sauce and crackers or bread, or you can serve it warm with veggies or rice. However way you and your family likes it! Believe it or not, you can have some dishes in the dishwasher while you are cooking your salmon.

Simply delicious! The salmon stays moist and fabulous for days after.

Tips

Here are some tips that I learned from doing this recipe several times. I usually run the dishwasher without dishes for a cycle after I’m done with the salmon because sometimes there’s a little residual smell (nothing too bad, don’t worry). You can do any kind of firm, white fish too. Halibut comes out pretty nicely, but I use fennel instead of dill and, depending on the thickness of the fish, you might have to do 2 cycles in the dishwasher.
