I Survived Day 1, Here’s My Grocery Cart Today

January 18, 2012 by Brooke Burke Leave a Comment

I survived Day 1 and today is a new day, new challenge, and a new opportunity to conquer.  I feel pretty good for the most part. A bit achy but not too bad.  What’s important is that my head is in the right place and I am embracing all the side effects attached to giving up things.  I miss my coffee the most, but I know that is only habitual.  I rarely finish my cup anyway.

I am discovering all kinds of new veggie flavors and sweetness when combined and pressed. BTW, when you slow down, breathe in between bites, food becomes a totally different experience. I even survived the steak dinner I made for my family last night, while David enjoyed a glass of wine. (Pat pat on my own back).  I’ll be working out first thing this morning, and hopefully a nice stretch and yoga session later in the day.

I’ve already made my second trip to the market; veggies sure don’t last long when you are a rabbit.  I think I am eating more kale than Rain’s turtle.

My grocery cart today:

Celery, avocados, leeks, parsley, zucchini, yellow squash, broccoli, sweet potatoes, ginger, cucumbers, raw almonds, quinoa, seaweed, string beans, garlic, sweet lemons, green apples, asparagus, sprouts, kale, egg plant, mint and green tea.

I am using at least three lemons a day, but they are all picked from my garden.

My veggie cleansing soup:

5 cloves of garlic
1 onion
2 zucchini
1 celery stalk
2 cups broccoli
Cup of kale
2 yellow squash
1 teaspoon of Celtic sea salt
1 tsp. pepper
3 bay leaves
The juice of 1 lemon
1 tbl of minced ginger

Boil the onion, garlic and bay leaves in 10 cups of water and add all the other chopped ingredients. Simmer on medium temperature for 30 min or until veggies are soft.

I love the broth with any meal.  The soup I will eat for dinner every night. It’s also great pureed in a blender and served warm.

Also, here’s the easy recipe for Krunchy Kale – delicious and nutritious!
