Cyberbully: Words Can Hurt

Bullying has long been a problem in the classroom and on the playground, but now it can even happen inside your own home.

That’s one of the takeaways from ABC Family’s Cyberbully, which follows a teenage girl who is bullied online by her peers to the point that she becomes suicidal.

The television film tells the story of how her mother works to make cyber-bullying illegal and prevent other kids from a similar experience.

Cyberbully is a must-watch movie for the whole family. It encourages discussion and drives home the terrible truth that sticks and stones might break your bones, but words can really hurt. The film not only brings to light the effects bullying can have on other students, but can help parents to better understand the modern school environment and the challenges their children are facing.

Originally aired back in September on ABC Family, Cyberbully was released on DVD February 7 and is available on Amazon. Pick up a copy and make it a family night! Watch the film with your kids and use it as a way to open up a conversation about what’s going on in their lives and whether they’ve been the victims of cyberbullying.
