My Family Relationship Status: It’s Complicated

When people hear that I have twins, one of the first questions I’m usually asked is, “Do you have family around to help you?” The answer to that question is like one of the relationship status options on Facebook: It’s complicated. Although my mother and stepfather live nearby, I haven’t spoken to them since Elby turned two. My mom bought her only grandchild a tricycle at that birthday but she’s never seen her ride it. Since Elby will be five in November, shes long since grown out of the three-wheeler phase and now has a big girl bike she rides everywhere but her trike still resides in the garage waiting patiently for the twins.

My First Corset

It is true that I am obsessed with the PBS show, Downton Abbey. Also true that I have read all 1,040 pages of Gone With The Wind at least four times. But that doesnt explain why I recently bought two corsets made from cold hard steel and reinforced black nylon. Twenty years ago, I bought a beautiful black dress. Handsewn black lace sleeves. Sequined fitted top. Fluffy black polka dot crinoline skirt. Purchased at the same fancy-schmancy Madison Avenue boutique where I got my white silk wedding gown.

My first entry…

So, I just joined Modern Mom today. I figured I’d make my first blog entry pretty simple; just a little introduction of myself and my life. Let’s see…where to start. I’m about to turn 32 (I don’t like that number; let’s swap it around!.) I have 2 sons, ages 9 and 7. They both have ADHD, and I suspect my 7 year old also has some sort of sensory integration disorder.
