Hey ModernMoms, do you have a great idea for a TV show to help others live their best lives? Could you be the next Oprah, Peter Walsh or Dr. Oz? Could you host a TV show like ModernMom’s Brooke Burke?
You may have heard that Oprah is on the hunt for the next TV star – we’ve got all the details and some insider tips directly from master organizer Peter Walsh. Fresh from this past weekend’s casting call where nearly 2000 people showed up to pitch their show ideas, Peter talked with the Pop Culture Mama to give you moms the upper hand to stand out among thousands.
Oprah is giving you the chance to have your very own show on her new Oprah Whinfrey Network(OWN). “Your Own Show: Oprah’s Search for the Next TV Star” is a nationwide competition to get the most talented, passionate person on the air talking about the issues that matter most to them and helping others live their best lives.
There are two ways to take part in this life changing opportunity. You can either attend the last of four casting calls in Atlanta on June 28 or you can submit a three-minute video online. Approximately 4000 video submissions have already been submitted.
Viewers can vote on their favorite video submission and the top ten contestants (from the videos and casting calls) will move on to potentially become the next star and have a show.
If you think you have a winning idea, the Pop Culture Mama has the inside scoop on how to stand out. Here’s the skinny we got from Peter Walsh and his list of do’s and don’ts for pitching your idea.
Show, don’t tell: Make sure you are showing what you have to offer. Don’t just talk into the lens.
Get an honest critique: Have someone other than your mom watch your video, take their advice and update until you’re happy with your submission.
Check out your competition – Look at the videos that have already been submitted. Make note of what works, what doesn’t and what you have that they don’t.
Vote : Get everyone you have ever met to vote for you online!
Passion: Passion Passion PASSION: If you want the world to believe your idea is the best, you have to believe it is.
Colors: Don’t wear bright or patterned colors on camera.
Dogs out, kids out: Make sure you eliminate anything that might interfere with the sound quality.
Walls and windows: Don’t stand in front of a white wall or a bright window.
Gum: Spit it out!
Test runs: Shoot your video a couple of times, each attempt will be better than the one before. June 26 will be the last day you can enter a video for consideration. So get your camera and unleash your passion. We know you moms have what it takes!
