Too Old For Training Wheels!

Maybe Im old fashioned, but I feel that there are certain basic, life skills that all people should acquire during childhood. For example, tying shoelaces would be one of them. So would cutting food with a knife and fork. Also, the theme of my post today, learning to ride a bike. Oh, Lord.

The Standing Up Pee-er

After nearly seven years, my son has begun to pee standing up. I dont know when most boys start to pee standing up, or if they ever pee sitting down. I feel like this is the kind of thing you investigate and obsess about when youre a first time mom and youre potty training your first born. But my first born was a girl, so I missed that part, and with the second kid–well, we all know how things go with second kids. My son just sort of potty trained himself by imitating me and his sister, and I didnt really have the time or the inclination to worry about it.

I was found an old copy of Newsweek the other day. Man Up! was the headline, with an image of a well-built, shirtless man facing away from the camera, holding a little boy in his arms. The subtitle was The Traditional Male Is an Endangered Species. Its Time to Rethink Masculinity. Isnt it though?
