Mommy and Santa

Mommy and Santa

I’m lying in bed while my house sleeps.  This is when I do my best work.  I usually feel too guilty when the kids and David are up to get online and write or even check and respond to my business e-mails.  I remember being in a relationship with a workaholic.  I was always competing and I never understood his ethics.  Now I am close to what once drove me crazy.  Funny how life works.  Actually I’m not THAT close, I always put my family first, that just makes for a harder tomorrow and more work to catch up on. But, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

blog post photoI’m off tomorrow to TX for a ModernMom business mtg.  Long way to go for a meeting, but I’m actually looking forward to it.  “My Tell The Truth Tuesday” Twitter confession is that I am totally excited about a hotel room all to myself, a great dinner that I did not prepare, black out drapes and a sleeping pill!!!  I feel like I have written that blog before, but some things never change. I am not complaining about my life, I wouldn’t trade a sleepless night with my kids for anything in the world, BUT let’s keep it real!

BTW way my son is finally falling in love with me and he is so darn cute.  I’m excited every time he tries to express himself in his VERY limited vocabulary.  As much as I am dying to know what’s on going on in his adorable head, I just love the language he is speaking now.  My mom just bought Shaya his first bike, and he got a train conductor costume for Chanukah.  He’s delicious and I am so happy that he has a “boy” costume now. LOL, if you read my recent blog about gender toys.

Our family is so big that the kids are very blessed during the holidays.  I started a mandatory family gifting tradition several years back and it will always be an important one for us.  With every new toy that is received, one old, gently used, toy must be given away.  I think it is a great way to teach generosity and the value of privilege.  My kids resisted it at first, but they get how important it is to give, and I make them do it in a big way.

The adults in our family stopped exchanging gifts because it’s all about the kids now.  I actually enjoy that more.  I hate obligation gifts, and think things should be given all year long when they come from the heart.

My daughter asked me yesterday, “How come Santa doesn’t give you a present Mommy?”  What a concept!  In case he’s wondering, I’m secretly hoping for a kitten!!!
