Rain's Wardrobe Malfunction

I’m in my 18th hour, but I promised a new blog by day’s end, so here goes.

My day started at 5:30am as I headed out to the Stage at Paramount Studios to shoot my 2nd episode for The Doctors.  First stop of course was Starbucks, and I was the only one in there! Reminded me of the old Rock Star days.  As early as the calls were, it was always fun to go to work.  Btw, thanks to everyone who watched today’s show.  I am really enjoying the new gig, and I am totally looking forward to addressing many intimate topics.

Today’s show was action packed, 20 kids on stage and 2 famous Muppets!  Without giving up too much info, because the show will air on Nov 17th and I don’t want to blow it, let me just paint a funny picture for you…We were celebrating Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary, so we were graced with the presence of one famous grumpy old grouch, and 20 excited but impatient children.  One of which was my very own Rain.

David was driving Rain to the show to join me and give her a chance to meet the Muppets.  On the way, either his driving got the best of her or the daddy breakfast just didn’t agree, but she lost it and puked all over herself and my truck!  The problem was that when you tell a 2 yr old that they are going to see mommy, meet the Sesame Street gang and be on TV, there’s no turning back just because you have just puked all over your pretty dress.  Poor David calls me from the road, as if there was anything I could do, and says he didn’t pack a baby bag.  Rule #1 – always pack a change of clothes even if they’re off the bottle and out of diapers, you never know what may happen.  If you’re smart pack an extra shirt for yourself, too. Fortunately I keep an emergency bag in my car with an extra set of clothes for each of my kids, some snacks and necessities.  The problem was that I have not updated it for a while. So what David and Rain put together, any Mom would have cringed at, but imagine if it was your daughter’s TV moment!

So she shows up at the studio, moments before our call to the stage, in Shaya’s pants; blue sweats with a white stripe that are a year too small, so they became skater shorts. Next they found a white horoscope t-shirt that must have been a bad gift and then they topped it off with some multi-colored pink striped legwarmers. .She looked like she had been playing dress up in someone else’s closet and had no parental supervision.  Perfect for the Mommy Correspondent’s daughter, LOL! But Rain did show up, with a smile on her face, looking like she just merged Flashdance and Raggedy Anne, ready for the show to go on!  I made a quick drive- by to wardrobe and tried to tone down her eclectic look with a pink sweater.  I actually think she was adorable, and I chuckled at David and her effort to pull it together.  Little did I know that Oscar The Grouch had nothing on her about an hour into the taping.

We survived though. Rain got her Muppet photo op, we didn’t let her down because of a little spilled milk and we realized that living in a garbage can is glamorous compared to the smell of puke in an SUV. She and Oscar The Grouch made quite a duo.
