Giuliana Rancic on Infertility: “We do what’s right for us.”

If you watch E! News, then you have probably laid your eyes on the talented and beautiful Giuliana Rancic. In a recent interview, the well-known celebrity news personality opens up to ModernMom about everything from philanthropy to fertility and her life both onscreen and at home.

ModernMom: On your show you so bravely shared your struggle with fertility. What advice do you have for women who are going through the same thing?

Giuliana Rancic: I think the most important thing is that you have to see a specialist. The stats are that 1 in 8 couples have infertility issues. So many of us sit at home, get online and [try] to diagnose ourselves and figure out what we can be doing from home, but really you need to go to speak to a specialist. Do some research, see who the best IVF or fertility specialist is in your area and just go speak to them and see what your options are. I think that’s really the most important thing because knowledge is power.

As far as people who are already going through it, I say don’t listen to anyone else. People give me advice all the time, especially because we went public. Granted I get some great advice, but whether I choose to take that advice or not–that’s up to me and my husband. We do what’s right for us. Everyone always wants to give you advice. Do acupuncture, don’t do acupuncture. Do IVF, don’t do IVF. Pray to Saint Gerard…I mean I get ‘em all. It is very sweet and it comes from such a good place, so I appreciate it all but really at the end of the day, I do what feels right in my heart. I think that is the most important thing–you gotta follow your heart.

You always look amazing! What are you favorite fashion trends this summer?

I love that color blocking trend that everyone was doing in the spring and summer. I think that was really cute. Just mixing bold colors, I think that is a lot of fun. Another thing I love is white nail polish. White manicure and pedicure matching. I just got that done. I think it is really cute for summer. It screams summer ’cause once fall comes you can’t be doing that anymore.

If you could only wear one type of make up in the morning, which would it be?

Definitely blush, well bronzer to be specific. I think everyone looks better with a little bit of color on their cheeks. I can’t leave the house without some bronzer on!

What is the weirdest thing in your purse right now?

God, what isn’t weird in my purse? Probably eyeshades. No one ever understands why I have eyeshades in my purse. They are like, “Are you doing something kinky later?” And I’m like, “No!” I am always trying to sneak in a couple hours of sleep. So even if it’s a day flight, I am the weirdo with the eyeshades on at like ten in the morning on the plane. It is creepy. So yeah, probably my eyeshades!

You are so busy. What do you do when the exhaustion just takes over you?

It’s funny. Anytime I get in a bad mood, I really do take a step back and I say, “I am very lucky”. Yes, it can be aggravating when an interview shows up an hour late and I have a premiere to get to but then I think, “Really? This is what I am getting upset about? That Miley Cyrus is a little late and I gotta get to a Julia Roberts premiere? I mean, come on. How can I be upset about this?” The way I get through the day, even when I am really exhausted, is to really think about how lucky I am. When you put out good thoughts and you are thankful and grateful for your life and your job, only better things will happen to you. You just keep getting more and more good things happening in your life.

Who is one woman that has inspired you to become the person that you are today?

It might sound cliché, but Oprah Winfrey. I remember coming home when I was younger every day and watching Oprah on TV. She always inspired me especially once I heard her story of how she became a TV host. She overcame every single odd to become who she is today. She definitely inspired me because she wasn’t the blonde-haired, blue-eyed beauty that you typically saw on television in her position. I was different too–English wasn’t my first language; I wasn’t the blonde-haired, blue-eyed American girl either. I didn’t have any nepotism. I didn’t have a rich uncle in Hollywood who could help me out. I didn’t know anyone who worked at a TV station. I mean, I had no clue how to start! But I thought, neither did she and she had so much more going against her. If she could do it, then I certainly could do this. She was a true inspiration.

What is Dress for Success and how did you become involved with the organization?

A couple of years ago I heard about the organization and exactly what they were doing. I was so impressed and thought, “Wow, no one is really doing this and it is something that we are really lacking right now.” [Dress for Success] helps underprivileged women get back in the work force. It provides not only the resources that they need as far as job leads and training, but it also outfits them with great business attire for that first interview and beyond. The first impression is everything. You’ve got to impress the employer and look put together. Sadly in this economy a lot of women can’t afford to do that. That’s where Dress for Success comes in. With my love of fashion and my desire to give back and help out, especially women, I thought this was a great cause for me to be involved in.

Tell us a little about your involvement with Trop50.

I got involved with Trop50 couple years ago. They approached me because they are very into good health and nutrition. My website, fabfitfun.com, launched this past year and they had seen that and a lot of people tweet me for advice on what ‘skinny snacks’ to eat during the day and what drinks they should have when they are trying to quit coffee. After [Top50] approached me, I looked into it. I really studied the drinks carefully and…I just fell in love with them. They have 50% less sugar and calories and no artificial sweetners. They are very refreshing, especially for the summer. It is my go-to refreshing drink during the day–so I basically just drink water and that, to be honest.
