For the first year of life, breast milk or formula provides the bulk of your baby’s nutrition, even after he begins eating solid foods. As a mother, you may worry whether your baby is drinking enough — or too much. Your baby’s appetite may vary from day to day and may be completely different from another baby’s appetite — all of this is normal.
After you’ve delivered your baby, you may think that the rough part is over and that your body will return to normal over the next few months. In most cases, this will be true. But the fluctuation of hormones after you give birth can trigger headaches. You may also experience a headache if you chose to receive an epidural during delivery.
One of my son’s obsessions is politics. Politics? How did that happen? Well, for history class last year, he had to watch the presidential debates. Also, his dad and I talked a lot of politics, especially around the time of the elections. Then, the election didn’t go the way we were hoping. We were disappointed,…
You and your partner have made the decision. It’s time to start “trying” to get pregnant. For best results, narrow down the day you ovulate–that is, the time you release an egg. An egg only spends a day seeking sperm with which to unite, and the day you ovulate is your most fertile. Three to five days before the egg’s release is also a good time to try, as sperm can survive that long. Instead of avoiding those magical days in the middle of your cycle, embrace them, and each other.
How prepared are you to become a parent? Even if you think you’ve got it all figured out, be warned – those little bundles of joy are also messy, frustrating and stressful. Now rub your hands inthe wet flower bed and rub on the walls. Place a fish stick behind the couch and leave it there all summer.
According to Lisa Rodriguez, R.N., contributing writer for the Dr. Spock website, sinus pain and infection are common pregnancy ailments. The hormones responsible for vaginal swelling also cause the lining of nasal passages and sinus cavities to swell, a condition called sinusitis. Increased swelling prevents nasal passages from draining properly, and this back-up of fluid can lead to an overgrowth of bacteria. The result is a painful sinus infection.
If just the thought of head lice makes your head itch, think about what it is doing to your child who has them. Lice are a common problem shared by school-age children across the United States. Most parents receive the dreaded letter from the school at least one time during their child’s school career. The letter usually states that lice are going around the school and that you had better check your child.
A fever in your toddler is a sign that he has an infection and that his body is trying to fight it. It’s normal and, in most cases, there is no cause for concern. You can treat the fever at home, but you should contact your doctor if the fever is high or if your child seems abnormally sick. The most important thing that you’ll need to treat your toddler’s fever is patience, as a sick child can require a great deal of your attention.
