The Perks of Marrying a Nerd

December 13, 2011 by Duncan Stewart Leave a Comment

Are you dating a nerd? Or did you marry one without realizing it? Don’t feel badly, nerds make the best boyfriends!

Just think of all they bring to the table:

  • They’re usually pretty smart and can handle all of your tech needs.
  • Even though they can be awkward, they’re definitely not scamming you with their charms
  • Did we mention they’re great at fixing things?

But sometimes they can be a little hard to understand. Especially when their obsession with toys makes them seem more like kids than men. Don’t worry about that small flaw, I’m here to help you speak their language (as well as maybe help get you some extra cash).

A nerd-husband’s closet is a treasure trove of relics and lost lore. With their toys, they recreate the fantasies they love in the real world. This is the basis for their collectible craze. The toys are a physical manifestation of the dreams a nerd has of living in the fantasy world. In other words, “It would be so cool if lightsabers were real. I’m going to buy one.”

And they pay good money to let themselves believe this.

Magic: The Gathering Cards

Two or three sentence overview:  Magic: The Gathering is a game for alpha nerds – a card game where you take on the role of a wizard who uses valuable cards to defeat other players. Unlike other card games like Pokemon or Yu-Gi-Oh which are clearly for children, Magic has a sophisticated air, an elegance if you will. And it gives nerds what they most desire, the chance to crush their enemy with their mind in a  fantasy world.
