SMILING IT FORWARD Through Aches and Pains

When you first find out you are expecting, you tend to go a bit overboard in every area. When bringing a new life into the world you of course think you need to give them everything available and definitely need to be prepared for any, and I mean ANY, situation. As a parent, you try to do everything you can to protect your children from the hurt and heartache that unfortunately you know is in the world.

However, let’s be honest, it’s fairly impossible to do so. Not only are the bumps, bruises, scratches and heartache inevitable, they are part of developing us into who we are. I am constantly saying that had I given birth to Declan first, Dane would have never come along. That’s because as my 2nd son, Declan is a wild one. He has been a daredevil since the day he could move on his own.

I say this because I had always expected my first major ER trip to be for Declan. However, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Several months ago I let the boys go to the playground with their teenage sister to burn off some energy. I hadn’t but dropped them off for 5 minutes when I received a call from a frantic Alana.

Dane (not Declan) had fallen off the good ‘ol monkey bars. He had broken his wrist and it looked like something out of a horror movie. It took everything in my gut to stay positive and keep from crying in front of him. Seeing him in such agony, I would have done anything to take the pain away!

After a long trip to the ER, a cast, several nights in pain, and a traumatic removal of the cast, he is now back to his normal self and able to play just like any other child. While this wasn’t easy for any of us, we joked and smiled through the pain on all ends, knowing we would get through it as a family. Dane was able to start a new school this year with a cool summer battle story and he is braver than ever!

There are tons of kids (and parents) going through the same painful situations which is why you should head over to the TYLENOL® Facebook Page and join in the efforts of SMILING IT FORWARD . Upload a photo that makes you smile and $1 will be donated to Children’s Health Fund to help ensure a doctor’s visit is always within reach for children in need.

I have received information and materials from McNeil Consumer Healthcare, Division of McNEIL-PPC, Inc., the makers of TYLENOL®. The opinions stated are my own. This is a sponsored post.
