CDC Predicts All States Will Ban Smoking By 2020.

The CDC has announced they believe smoking may be banned in all states by 2020.

By 2020, it’s predicted that every state will have bans on smoking in restaurants, bars, and workplaces. They gauged this on the current pace at which anti-smoking laws have been implemented.

In 2000, there were no states with comprehensive indoor smoking bans and in 2010, there are 26.

In addition to those 26 states, another ten have laws that ban smoking in at least one of the three venues (workplaces, restaurants and bars) but not all three. Other states have designated smoking areas.

The seven states that currently have no indoor smoking restrictions are Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, South Carolina, Texas, West Virginia, and Wyoming. Although some parts of these states have implemented bans.

Though it’s difficult to measure (since cancer takes a long time to develop), it’s thought that smoking bans have contributed to the decline in adult heart attack rates and child asthma attacks.
