Throughout the years, people have come up with some bizarre, strange diets meant to cleanse and detoxify. In fact, some of them are downright dumb – and funny. Here are the five funniest fad diets of all time:
1. The Lemon and Lime Diet
According to this diet’s rules, you are allowed to only ingest two things (besides water): lemons and limes. The diet’s creator believed it would promote health. However, smarter people realize that eating only lemons and limes will cause a serious dietary imbalance and can lead to constipation and/or malnutrition.
2. The Tapeworm Diet
This may be the most disgusting diet on this list. This treatment involves ingesting tapeworm pills and then allowing the parasitic worms to grow happily inside your body. Sure, you’ll lose weight, because your new tapeworm is eating all your food, but parasites like tapeworms can cause infections and serious health problems. And once you get rid of the worm and start eating normally again, you’ll simply regain all the weight you lost.
3. The Master Cleanse
The Master Cleanse has become incredibly famous because so many celebrities swear by it. This diet involves drinking water with maple syrup, cayenne pepper, and lemon. While you’ll certainly lose weight by just ingesting these four things, you’re looking at a serious imbalance in your body – and the possibility of it leading to malnutrition.
4. The Amputation Diet
Warning: I am not making this up. Keesha Myas came up with this diet plan in 2006, and it makes me giggle hysterically. First, clip your nails. Next, get a drastic haircut and trim body hair. Take a diuretic, and you can lose one to three pounds. Take a laxative and lose another one to two pounds. Amputate your arm and lose ten to twenty-five pounds (although the diet creator says this is “not advised”). The list goes on and on, finally ending with donating a kidney and getting breast reduction surgery. Oh, Keesha Myas. I sincerely hope this is a joke.
5. The Baby Food Diet
Jennifer Aniston can do a little bow for making this diet popular. She learned about it from trainer Tracy Anderson, who invented the idea of eating baby food to lose weight. I don’t have to much to say on this one. It’s like a liquid diet but has the added nutrition, so physically, it’s not terribly awful on your body. But really? Eating baby food? I’ll pass.
