Katherine Heigl, 31, confirmed our suspicions to Entertainment Weekly. Izzie is saying adios to Grey’s Anatomy, and Katherine is moving on to bigger and better things.
So what could possibly be better than starring in a super-popular, long-running, ABC medical drama?
Being a mom, of course.
“I started a family and it changed everything for me,” says Heigl. “It changed my desire to work full-time.” Katherine just adopted a daughter, Naleigh. She denies reports that she is leaving the show because of a growing film career. (Although, I will admit I thoroughly enjoyed 27 Dresses.)
Katherine pulled out of her contract 18 months early. As a result, Izzie will not appear in the final five episodes of Grey’s. She says she knows she is disappointing the fans, but she is hoping she made the right choice.
ABC released this statement to Entertainment Weekly, “By mutual agreement, Katherine Heigl has ended her successful run as Dr. Isobel Stevens. The studio wishes her well. Everyone at Grey’s Anatomy is now focused on delivering a shocking season finale and a great show for seasons to come.”
